You will be completing your first piece of Controlled Assessment for the English Language GCSE in English lessons from 23rd-25th October.

You will be writing an essay answering the following question:

Texting and social networking are ‘destroying’ our language. How far do you agree with this opinion?

In your answer you should consider other attitudes to multimodal communication and you should also use direct evidence from transcripts of spoken and multimodal communication.

This task requires you to think about the different opinions, including your own, on how language is changing as a consequence of multimodal communication such as Facebook, Twitter, texting and other forms of instant messaging.

You will need to be able to demonstrate the effects by making comparisons between multimodal and spoken language using examples from transcripts. You should feel confident about explaining these examples and considering how the context of the conversation also affects language.
