Today we discussed the importance and value of reading, both for your personal development and to enrich and support your academic studies. We were lucky enough to be able to use the library where Ms Seaman, the librarian, guided us through the art of choosing books. We considered how important it was to spend time choosing a book by getting advice, looking for particular authors or genres and reading the first page to check the writing style.

I also talked to you about the idea of having a few books ‘on the go’ at the same time; some for academic purposes, another as an ‘easy read’ and one that is more of a challenge.

You have now had an opportunity to pick a book, which you will read outside of school as a start of your personal reading project. See the list below and please comment if you want to amend the list. You will be expected to read the book listed as part of your ongoing English homework and will be asked for feedback about your reading as the term goes on.
